Local campaigners celebrated success as health chiefs announced that maternity and casualty units will remain at Epsom General Hospital. Moreover the Hospital is to receive a significant investment. Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust will create a 'vision' for the future of the Hospital and consult on it over the next 6 months. It anticipates the investment being between £80 and £100 million.

Alice Humphreys, who has led the Liberal Democrat campaign on behalf of residents of Mole Valley, said: "I am delighted that the voice of local people has eventually been heard and would like to thank all those who have supported the campaigns in support of Epsom Hospital. People across Mole Valley will be relieved that these important services are safe. I will continue to look closely at the details of this deal to ensure that the proposals meet the needs of people in our area."
