Stephen Cooksey welcomes the new scheme

Surrey County Council has signed a long-term contract with a private company to renew all street lights in Surrey and provide an improved service when lights fail. New lighting will also be considered for areas where previous requests have been made. This should improve lighting quality and reduce electricity consumption. However, the renewal programme will be rolled-out over a 5-year period and Mole Valley will be the last of the 11 Districts to benefit - it will be 2015 before replacements appear.

County Councillor Stephen Cooksey said "I welcome this scheme but it is a great disappointment that the Conservative Cabinet has decided to leave Mole Valley until last. At least over the next few years there should be better service when lights fail."
