Derrick Burt welcomes improvements to Dorking town centre

After years of pressure from Dorking Councillors Mole Valley District Council is set to agree with some town centre improvements. The Council has received £20,000 of Section 106 developer funding for environmental work and £10,000 for works of public art.

Consultation with the local community has identified the following priorities:

  • Redecoration of posts and rails in Dorking High Street and Pump Corner;

  • Tree works in St Martin's Churchyard;

  • Improvements including new seats in the South Street seating area;

  • Street trees in the town centre.

Councillor Derrick Burt said "I welcome improvement schemes for the town centre but it is only a first step after years of inaction by the Conservative Executive. Even now the Council has not made any of its own resources available. Liberal Democrats will continue to press for an overall enhancement strategy for the town centre backed by Council investment."
