Lib Dems are delivering for Mole Valley

Your vote matters on May 2nd !

MAY 2nd IS ELECTION DAY AND YOU HAVE TWO BALLOTS

Use them both to elect Liberal Democrats.

The first is for the election of one (in some cases two) of your 3 Mole Valley District Councillors. All Lib Dem Councillors were last elected last year when the whole Council was up for election and Lib Dems won 30 of the 39 Council seats. Please confirm your support for your local hard-working champions and vote for your local Lib Dem Councillor candidate. See the full list of candidates further below.

The second is for the election of a Police and Crime Commissioner. The election is for a 4 year term of office with all Surrey electors able to participate. Last time a Conservative won but Lib Dem candidate, local Councillor Paul Kennedy, came second with 112,000 votes and in Mole Valley he topped the poll. With your support he can go one better this time and win across Surrey.

Five years of Liberal Democrat control, and with your support, much more to come

Liberal Democrat-led Mole Valley Council has maintained its core services to residents and made significant progress in a wide range of improvements - from our radical climate change action plan to a significant business improvement plan. Our Local Plan is almost final and will provide more affordable and social housing. Recycling has improved and we’re supporting our town centres, including improvements to our leisure centres.

We have weathered the Covid years, savage cuts in government financial support, destructive government interference in planning policies and high inflation.

To balance the books, we have made savings and cost efficiencies of £1.4 million between 2022 and 2024 and a further £1.8 million in the coming year. And, we’ve done this with below inflation Council Tax increases year on year - the Conservative County Council has drastically cut services but levied far higher Council Tax increases and the Conservative Police and Crime Commissioner’s costs have ballooned, well ahead of inflation.

Our diverse Council Group of 30 members ranges in age from 20s to 70s, with a wide range of professional and community experience and interests. Our Cabinet has a female majority.

MAINTAINING SERVICES DESPITE FUNDING CUTS

The Liberal Democrats leading the District Council are maintaining essential services despite savage Conservative funding cuts.  £1.5 million has been saved over the last 2 years and £1.8 million more will be saved next year. We are calling for fairer funding for Councils.

DOING OUR BIT FOR THE PLANET - NET ZERO by 2030

Our Climate Change Action Plan has been updated to include significant improvements to carbon emissions at Dorking Halls, a decarbonisation advice programme for residents and a grant scheme to help decarbonise village and community halls.

SUPPORT FOR BUSINESS AND COMMUNITIES

We are providing grants and assistance for businesses, employment and skills programmes for residents and a campaign to bring a banking hub to Dorking. We have innovative support for elderly and vulnerable residents with transport, social centres and technology enabled care.

COMMUNITY POLICING AND ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR

We have renewed public spaces protection orders for Meadowbank and Dorking town centre with higher fines for fly tipping and are supplementing local community policing with the council's own enforcement team to help address littering, graffiti, abandoned cars and anti-social behaviour.

NEW LEISURE OPERATOR & DORKING HALLS UPGRADE

New contracts are in place for our Leisure Centres with a wider range of activities and community involvement. We are also implementing a planned programme of repairs and improved facilities at Dorking Halls to maintain this iconic arts centre.

TRANSFORM LEATHERHEAD

Secured a Joint Venture business plan and consultations together with High Street improvements and are working to help secure a BID and a banking Hub.
