We need more SEND schools in Surrey

Support us in petitioning the Department for Education (DfE) to promptly re-submit an application for a SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) school to Mole Valley's Development Management Committee for consideration.

A judicial review of the Betchwood Vale SEND school planned in Dorking has halted the progress of the site. Challenging this review would be very expensive and cause great delays. So we want to make sure that DfE submits their plans for consideration promptly.

90% of autistic children aged 7-19 years who live in Mole Valley must travel distances of more than six miles from their community each day to obtain school provision that can successfully meet their needs, while other children with needs must decide between mainstream education or being out of school altogether. It is crucial that there is more SEND provision in Surrey.

Chris Coghlan, Dorking and Horley Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate, says, "time and time again I've met parents of special educational needs children who are being denied their basic access to education. We desperately need more SEND schools."
