Tyrrells Wood and Givons Grove

The Community Governance review proposes that these areas form part of a new Leatherhead Parish Council. However they will have different Unitary Councillors from the rest of Leatherhead,

Current situation

For some years, Tyrrells Wood and Givons Grove have been represented as part of Leatherhead on Mole Valley Council but have been in the Dorking Hills electoral division at Surrey County Council. Following a recent Boundary Commission review they will be included in the Dorking Rural ward on the Unitary Council.

This requires them to be constituted as a separate ward on the proposed Leatherhead Parish Council.

Joining a Parish Council

Also their Unitary Councillors will be expected to work with between 9 and 11 different Parish Councils representing the smaller villages in Dorking Rural. They would find it difficult therefore to attend Leatherhead Parish Council meetings.

Moreover some of the residents feel that their views might be better represented by a more rural Parish Council so might prefer to form part of an existing nearby Parish Council – Mickleham for Givons Grove and Headley for Tyrrells Wood.

This is not provided for in the current consultation so any residents who would prefer this should express their view directly to Mole Valley by emailing cgr@molevalley.gov.uk. This would enable the strength of feeling to be assessed for possible consideration in a future Community Governance Review.
