New Councils for Surrey

The Government has announced that in April 2027 the County Council and the 11 District and Borough Councils in Surrey will be abolished and replaced by two Unitary Councils - East Surrey Council and West Surrey Council.

Mole Valley will form part of East Surrey Council alongside Elmbridge, Epsom & Ewell, Reigate & Banstead and Tandridge.

Councillors for the new Council will be elected in May 2026 and will form a shadow authority until the new Council becomes operative in April 2027.

The Government also confirmed that elections will take place in May 2027 for a Strategic Mayor for Surrey.
